EOTO Reflection: Bluetooth

Prior to hearing this presentation I of course was familiar with Bluetooth, but I was not aware of a lot of the developmental process and stages of it from the beginning. In accordance to MDPI, "Bluetooth radios are currently embedded in almost all computing devices including personal computers, smart phones, smart watches, and even micro-controllers. For many of us, Bluetooth is an essential technology that we use every day." After hearing this I immediately thought about how I didn't realize how often I utilize this feature especially when it comes down to my iPhone, Apple Watch, even my AirPods. In the same sense that technology evolves as the world does, this works in the exact same sense and over the course of 25 years, there have been a lot of changes as to what Bluetooth can really do. "The Bluetooth radio technology was developed by L. M. Ericsson in 1994. The aim of the group was to invent an open specification for wireless technologies of short range."

As said in maddieberl blog, "Bluetooth has adapted through seven versions since 2004. Bluetooth's  purpose today 'is to connect gadgets without a cable". That is astonishing to me because we have been around to see so much innovation in the technology space and in the future we will have only made even more progress. It is also crazy to think about all the everyday uses Bluetooth is utilized for such as mouses, cellphones, computers, printers, etc. In the same way that we have been heavily aided by technology and advancements in Bluetooth, there are always precautions and negative situations that arise from it such as hacker attacks like bluejacking, bluesnarfing, and bluebugging. According to information presented on hackernoon.com, "
When attackers successfully gain access to your device they have the capability to spy on your communications, manipulate and steal sensitive information. Bluetooth attacks will continue to occur either with existing attacks or from zero-day vulnerabilities." This goes to show how easy it can be to get hacked and just by having the setting on, you could be more prone to being hacked.

Bluetooth has and continues to revolutionize the technological world at a fast rate making itself such an integral part of our lives everyday. It is also a huge part of how we communicate, but it is important to take precaution as it is still technology with some downsides.
